Supporters of National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, have intensified grassroots mobilisation across the Karamoja sub-region ahead of next week’s elections, aiming to increase voter turnout and margins for their candidate.
NUP activists are now present in villages, town centres, and trading hubs throughout Karamoja, engaging voters directly in their homes and communities.
Speaking to this publication, NUP Regional Coordinator for Karamoja Ernest Ayen said the drive aims to ensure a massive turnout for Kyagulanyi on polling day.
“Our focus now is to reach every voter at the grassroots and encourage them to come out in large numbers to vote for our presidential candidate,” Ayen said.
The mobilisation follows Kyagulanyi’s recent campaign tour in the region, where he held rallies in Amudat, Moroto, and Napak districts, marking the final leg of his Karamoja campaign.
In Moroto town, enthusiastic youth dressed in red attire and berets took to the streets in convoys of vehicles equipped with loudspeakers, chanting slogans and urging residents to vote for Kyagulanyi.
George Francis Ojamuge, the NUP flag bearer for Moroto Municipality’s parliamentary seat, said the mobilisation is a call for Karamoja to embrace political change.
“This is the time for Karamoja to vote for change. The right vote is voting for Robert Kyagulanyi,” Ojamuge said while waving the party flag.
NUP leaders say their message in Karamoja focuses on ending marginalisation, improving service delivery, addressing insecurity, and ensuring better livelihoods for communities in the sub-region.
With just days to go before the elections, political activity has intensified across Karamoja as parties race to consolidate support and turn mobilisation efforts into votes at the ballot box.
